Description
Gibson es 335 1976 all original. I had it up for sale not so long back but took it down as this is the one guitar that has come in to my posession that i really dont want to sell. Its an excellent example of a true vintage guitar and a part of Gibsons history at an attractive price. Its naturally old looking and has a patina that tells a story.
This guitar is an excellent example of a double cutaway thinline semi hollowbody guitar from the mid 1970s made during the norlin ownership period. There are areas of wear through to the wood primarily to the wear of the neck and the rear of the guitars body but otherwise play wear is not exessive and is commensurate with an instrument of its age.
BODY – is maple ply bodyw/centre block, original wine red finish, original body binding. Pickup and control routes correct. Appropriate play wear, patina and laquer checking. No evidence of any repair work
NECK – features a typical 3 piece maple neck associated with guitars from this period. There is a minor twist in it thats hard to see unless your used to working on guitars. It contributes to a very minor fretbuzz on the 5th and 6th string at around the 8th fret but notes still ring out fine and can barely hear the fretbuzz and wouldnt hear it plugged in. Its a great guitar for practicing or gigging with. Playability is still very good though and is very comfortable to play without being excessively narrow. Its had a refret in the past and a new nut. Headstock inlay is original, original binding and no evidence of any repair work.
ELECTRONICS – Pots CTS, original with readable date codes to 1975. Dates obscurred by solder (137 75XX), original 3 position switch, original jack input, original patent number humbucker pickups, pickup covers intact, original wiring loom thats intact and capacitor.
HARDWARE – Original adjustable bridge and tailpiece, original pickup rings, original truss rod cover, original pickguard, knobs appear newer.
The electronics pickups and hardware are all original with the exception of a replacement set of grover tuners which was a common upgrade at the time with the footprint of the original set of tuners being visible on the rear of the headstock. The Gibson made ABR bridge and trapeze tailpiece are present and correct and a set of patent number humbucker pickups that offer all the woody hollowbody tone you could want from a Gibson of this period.
This guitar also retains period hardcase.
